Pound for pound the bonefish has been described by many as one of the hardest fighting fish in the world. A sea water fish that lives predominantly on shallow water reefs, the bonefish offers great sight and stalking fishing opportunities that would excite any red blooded fly fisherman.
Light fly fishing tackle, specialist bonefish flies and polaroid glasses are the order of the day. Given that the Bonefish is easily spooked, there is real skill required in delivering an artificial fly at the right time and at the right place.
The Bonefish can be found in some pretty exotic locations that provide a wonderful backdrop to a very special fly fishing holiday. These include the Bahamas (where the fish are most noted for their size), Florida Keys and Belize, Turks and Caicos, the Mexican Yucatan (most notably, Ascension Bay), Belize, and Venezuela's Los Roques, Christmas Island in Kiribati, French Polynesia, and New Caledonia near the Great Barrier Reef, and Seychelles.
