Resident trout that spend their lives in rivers, streams and lakes can be found across the globe. Rainbow trout are native and most prolific on the North American continent whilst brown trout can be found in Europe, New Zealand, and Argentina.
The ocean going versions of rainbow and brown trout are referred to as “Steelhead” and “Sea Trout” respectively and these can also be found in prolific numbers across the globe. Often larger and harder fighting than their freshwater resident cousins they can represent the pinnacle of fly fishing for Trout.
Sea Trout are most prolific in Western European rivers but phenomenal sport can be found on the Tierra Del Fuego, the southern tip of Argentina. Here the sea trout grow to substantial sizes.
Steelhead can be found throughout Canada and Alaska and again provide intense sport for fly fishing trout anglers.
